From the School Committee minutes:
"Diane has worked hard to improve the quality of library programming in the Town of Burrillville as well as the State of Rhode Island. Her service has helped to formulate RIDE policy and library practice across the State of Rhode Island. Diane has served as one of the founding members of the Rhode Island Teen Award Book Committee. Diane is currently a member of the Young Adult Round Table working with public and school librarians every month to bring better programs to young adults.
"Diane has served as a board member of the State Library Association for three years chairing the standards and certifications committee working to align the Rhode Island standards with the national standards. Diane has served as the librarian representative on the team responsible for setting literacy guidance through the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Comprehensive Literacy Plan.
"On a personal level, Diane is passionate and persistent about her own personal growth. She is National Board Certified. Diane has attended workshops at URI and Texas in the area of Science. She has participated in the Teaching American History Grant. She is proficient in the latest uses of technology to engage students and to improve student learning. Diane believes that as a librarian, she has a strong, well-rounded, and technological background.
"As she states in her application: 'Inspiring students only happens when kids know you care. When it is time to teach content, I really want kids to see my passion for it. I work hard to match the books to the readers. I don’t know if I have an impact on every student, but I do know that my love of learning and being a better person in life is something I try to bring to my teaching each and every day.”
